Rainbow Bridge

If you are looking at this page, then there is a very good chance that you have recently lost your beloved dog, cat, horse, or other beloved animal that shared your life.  It is one of the hardest things a person goes through...to lose your precious friend and companion.  May you find comfort and peace at this sad time in your life.  My prayer for you is that you will feel that joy once more that your pet gave you when you were together.

I hope the many beautiful sayings on this page bring healing to your hurting heart
.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called
Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially
close to someone here, that pet goes to
Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play
together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and
our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are
restored to health and vigor; those who were
hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for
one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day
comes when one suddenly stops and looks into
the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His
eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run
from the group, flying over the green grass, his
legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your
special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The
happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long
gone from your life but never absent from your
heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

They will not go quietly, the
pets who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us
know their spirit still survives.

Old habits still make us think
we hear a voice at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.

Our feet still go around the
place the food dish used to be.
And, sometimes, coming home
at night, we miss them terribly.

Although time may bring new
friends and a new food dish to fill,
that one place in our hearts belongs to
them... and always will.

In Loving Memory of Canella 1992-2006

Canella enjoying Christmas Canella in the snowCanella taking a nap

A “once in a lifetime” dog, a true companion.  Her beginning was hard and I am blessed to have been able to “rescue” her, or vice versa!   She never met a stranger, and was full of love and life.  Her favorite treats were lemons, and she had her own special tree.  Her favorite holiday was Christmas, and even though blind from age 4, she could always find her stocking full of goodies just for her.

In Loving Memory of Honey, 2006

Pebbles & Honey

Honey had the sweet soul of a filly.  A loving, peaceful girl, she was just not prepared to fully enter this world.

In Loving Memory of Heidi, 1998-2004

Heidi grazing

Heidi was an old soul in a young mare’s body!  Anyone could ride her and she was a true “babysitter”.   She gave birth to a beautiful filly and was with us long enough to see her baby and give her a soft nicker.

In Loving Memory of Heidi’s Girl, 2004

This blessed little soul had the heart of a fighter, but she was just not prepared to go on without her momma.  She filled our days 24/7 with nothing but the love and trust that a baby can give.

JUST A HORSE!

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a horse," or, "that's a lot of money for "just a horse".
They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a horse." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse,' and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

I f you, too, think it's "just a horse," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse"

but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman/man."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse" just smile, because they "just" don't understand.

She is Gone

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and
go on.

Where good dogs are buried

For if the dog be well remembered,
if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life,
eyes kindling, laughing, begging,
it matters not where the dog sleeps.
On a hill where the wind is unrebuked
and the trees are roaring,
or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood,
or somewhere in the flatness of a land
where most exhilarating cattle graze.
It is one to the dog, and all one to you,
and nothing is gained and nothing is lost--if memory lives.
But there is one best place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot he will come to you when you call---
come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death,
and down the well remembered path to your side again.
And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel
they shall not growl at him nor resent him coming,
for he belongs there.
People may scoff at you,
who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall,
who hear no whimper,
people who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them,
The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master!
